I Had Dreams Too... (Challenge)

I had dreams too... You cannot look down upon me, simply because you are free from the worry of fortune, while through all my struggles I have no fortune, is this the gauge by which you measure me? Perpetually I pray to God in the sky, that I can find a way to feed my children, my face in my hands hiding tears from my children, are we not all equal in worth under this sky? Money is only the means by which we live, it can never be that by which we love, you are hollow when it is all you love, but you see a degenerate with no right to live. I had dreams too… A vision of a world where brothers we’d be, all mankind regardless of wealth, spreading love - the only true wealth, a beautiful world that never could be. But daydreams for me are at an end, my reality is the streets that are cold, there is no compassion as mankind is cold, who will weep when I meet my end? But am I not the son of a loving mother, and about her like all men I wonder, what would she think of me I wonder? I am sorry I failed in life dear mother. I had dreams too… Sometimes I look at myself and question, how did I come to this regrettable path, no opportunities to help me from this path, as to the cruelty of class-divide there is no question. It’s strange to wake up on the oily concrete, with a dated newspaper blanket on my face, which ironically gives my plight no face, to see society has given me this bed of concrete. They see my situation a cause of my fault, I must have been a damn fool in my youth, a dropout from school who wasted his youth. But the chains of poverty are a human fault. I had dreams too… But to my chagrin they never came true, though I would never say I am poor, for it is money that makes a man poor, while I have none - and that is true.Well, this is a poem I wrote for a challenge by Sheer Poetry, with the topic of povery. It had to be written using the amazing style she invented called a "Sheerling". For an explanation on the style, see here poem, "At This Moment". It wasn't the easiest thing to write, but I had a fun time doing it. I feel it is inadequate, but Sheer Poetry suggested that I put it on my main page. So here you are. Enjoy!
