The heavy folds of night's dark robes closed in about me. Wed to the soft grass, my folded legs slowly sank into the moist Earth. Teased lightly by the kiss of a summer breeze, a tear lay lightly on my trembling cheek. A great wash of distant, glimmering fire, a million stars cavorted across the laughing heavens, immune and aloof, untouched by the small, quiet pain of one small man on this tiny blue orb. With a soft moan my gaze turned upwards, and I queried infinity; why have you granted me such power to feel, but so little wisdom to hold fast in my dealings with others? What horrid jest have you cast that I should love those who love me not, fail in my loves with those who are close, and impotently love those I might never touch? To love is to move outside of oneself, to grasp at the greater life that is your will on this Earth, yet I clasp tightly onto this love as a trembling grip upon broken glass. Quietly I sit, heart pounding in my chest, as the dew chills my flesh and the stars wheel silently across the great vault of heaven.
