A Dream

By gregpoet

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I know now what you are. A dream! That's what! A dream is what you are. A nurtured dream that knows not truth; I'm wishing on a star. ....a wish that now can never be for you belong - but not to me. I'll hold you for a while and taste the passion of your lips. Your arms so soft and gentle too shall melt me in your warm embrace. And yet for all this welcomed care and warmth, shown clearly on your lovely face, I'll stem the flow of wild desire which thru' my veins so madly race; for though it hurts, it's plain to see that you belong - but not to me. I hear your voice, I lose myself, my heart and soul shall never more be free. What could and should, but never now can be shall haunt with painful memory; for you belong - but not to me. My tears I'll turn within my soul in hope to wash away my guilt. But still the flower grown in hope, bows not its head nor does it wilt. "If loving you is wrong, then let me not be right" a writer wrote these words in song, to make excuse and clarify, for holding on to love which was not his to have. ....and as he did, then so did I. For when I held you in my arms and gave in to my heart's desire, then thought was lost, or cast aside, and pleasure like a raging fire burned so brightly at that time, that for a while I could not see that you belonged - but not to me.                 Written by Gregory Fitt Written November 6th, 2001 © on Nov 06 2001 02:21 PM PST   0 • 8
