The Letter
By gregpoet
Dear Friend, Do not highlight the bad that is about, instead point out the good that I may be happy in this world in which I live. Do not hate me and wish evil for me; instead care for me that I might feel loved. Do not shy away from my nearness and scornfully wish me gone; instead want me, appreciate me, and touch me constantly so that I am comforted by your wholesome presence. Do not use me, abuse me, curse me and then discard me; instead make sacrifice for me that I might feel deserving and worthy of compassion and affection. Help me to lift up my head with pride; do not instead keep my spirits low and my hopes dashed. Smile with me; do not laugh at me. Help me up; do not push me down. Support me; do not forsake me. Celebrate my successes; do not rejoice in my failures. Unite with me that I may borrow of your strengths; do not instead conspire with others to weaken me and make me vulnerable. My Friend, offer me hope, give me freely of yourself. Share your good counsel with me and help to guide me so that I may not stray. Dear Friend, these things I ask of you, I offer back to you, unasked; for you are valued as a friend and so deserve all this, and even more besides.
