A Trick on Mom and Dad
By gregpoet
I tricked my Mom and Dad today. I made them think I was asleep. They crept into my room, carefully, lifted the net from my crib, taking pains not to disturb me. Dad put one arm around Mom's shoulder, and used the other to smooth my brow. It felt so warm and good on my face. Then Mom leaned over to kiss me on the cheek. She smelled so full of love and compassion, that I could not resist a peek. There were tears in her eyes and a smile on her face as she carefully pulled the crib's net securely in its place. A smile of triumph touched my face. They stood together a moment more, thinking I was fast asleep. Then softly, gently, closed the door. "I'll trick them both again tonight for sure."
