The Last Straw

By RiVeN

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Patrick came home a day early from his business trip Parked his car and opened the door Listened very closely and heard a woman Inside the house screaming for more He ran up the stairs into his room In his bed with his girlfriend he saw his very own kin This is where the madness begins The brother ran out of the room and quickly left Patrick standing in the treshold He orders his now ex girlfriend out of his place And he never again wants to see her face He gets his keys and drives to the local 7-11 A place right now on earth to him That seems like heaven He walks in and asks for a pack of his favorite cigs The storekeeper looks around and digs Nothing of the sort fresh out Skies turn black and his mind begins to shout He drives back home and decides to go to bed He finds a bottle of whiskey on the table He downs half of it and now crawls into bed Wakes up the next day with a pounding in his head And a ringing phone "Hello?"He says in his most human voice "Patrick gets your ass down here! You're an hour late!" His boss screams The demise begins He flies out of bed and down the freeway Only to realize this is the beginning Of a very bad day He parks in not bothering to notice the sign He brushes himself off and attempts to look benign He checks in for what would be the last time As he finds out he has been replaced By someone with a good reputation and a clean face He shuffles back out the door And sees that his car has become no more Towed away and now crushed into a cube His sanity Slowly draining down the tube It is getting late he goes back home and sees a note The front door tells him "Pack your stuff--you're being evicted" He opens the door and sees somebody has already done it All that's left is a table with a phone and his refrigerator He finds that half empty bottle of Whiskey And polishes it off Goes into his closet and pulls down a box Goes back to his table and sits Underneath tissue paper lays a gun He picks up the phone Cocks the gun It seems his sanity is no longer ruled The last straw has been pulled Written December 21st, 2001 © on Dec 26 2001 02:58 PM PST   0 • 1
