Mystical Dance by Kelly Varner Johnson In the shadows I moved my hand, my belly, my feet, my hips, In rhthym to the sad, sad song, its words bleeding from my lips. Alone, caged like a captured tigress, I had given up the fight, When first caught, I gouged and bit, and fought with all my might. You took my life away from me, a trophy, to you, I'd become, worthless to those who needed my strength, wanted by a greedy one. Your pride was a disgrace that only I knew when others ventured near. Your manners became of a kindly sort; behind doors no one saw your sneer. I bore my young and raised them well, allowed to venture from the cage. But if I longed to chase my dreams, your kindness turned to rage. So I danced, methodically, at first mostly due to trance. But my mystical moves made my body strong.  Soon I'd have my chance. I rocked to the beat on steady feet, hips moving free in time. I memorized songs verse for verse, muscles twitching rhyme for rhyme. My legs grew strong, feet moved swift, now honey poured off my lips. As I sang the words that gave me hope and mastered the sway of my hips. Soon, I made my move, only waiting for children grown and gone, And took you by suprise evil one, with strength from a little one. I performed my mystical dance for you, a dance meant once for slaves. My movements put you in a trance of visual and ethereal waves. My departure was swift on legs of steel, my muscles keeping pace. Then the chains broke as I ran, and you knew much disgrace. You could not break my spirit with your greed and lusty fire, For within my soul, I would know freedom and leave you with desire. Now you can only look upon me, I've a lion as my love. He's larger than you, and if you try you'll visit the gates above. You took another, very quick, and there lies another's fate. How sad of you to live your life wallowing in pity and hate. But, you won't touch me or my dance that caught you unawares. My lion, he does loathe you, and of your fate, he has no cares. So, fear the mystical dance, for it brought you to your knees. Your lust and greed, they suck you dry, just beware of what can tease. You live inside your greedy ways, but the dance caught you that day. So just beware, of another's lair and a dance that'll bleed your way. kvwriter17 years of horror in an horrific and smothering marriage.  I'm free now, but not without a price.  Oh, the mistakes we make when we're young.  But, I'm living and pursuing my dreams and I have much to accomplish now. I don't hold grudges, but have learned that there is a time to just say, "Good-bye." kvwriter Written February 10th, 2002 © on Feb 10 2002 06:51 AM PST, Kelly Varner Johnson   0 • 18 • 13
