The Girl who Fell

Fall sweet daylight shooting star. For you must go so very far. Above the shinning fields of gold. The sky is wide and deep and cold. There isn't really much to tell. I read about a girl who fell. Poor windswept fragile falling flower. No longer heavon bound. Alas no merely mortal power. Can keep her from the ground. The technical expression. Was explosive decompression. But explaination can't atone. For this angel falling all alone. Through the sweet clean Kansas air. No one told her life was fair. From on the Earth it must appear. A sight so vey odd. This poor thing falling like a tear. From the eye of a grieving God. That memory might seek to claim. As if to know her tragic name. And sympathy unbidden, Find meaning that is hidden. Why could this graceful swan not fly? Why does such beauty have to die? That fate is cruel it is agreed. Though we do not understand. That all of hope be vain indeed. As she falls toward the land. That long ago she left behind her. Now reaching once again to find her. Only a girl who dared to fly. Falling from a clear blue sky. Dear Lord hear my tardy prayer. Recieve thy angel from the air. What can men say against Gods will? So it is and ever shall be. Did she wonder if he loved her still? As she fell to eternity. The years pass by, I keep her alive. A small pretty girl on a very high dive. And though we play the hand we draw. I'd like an exception to that law So I could go back and make it well. And hold out my hand to the girl that fell. For a twentyone yr. old stewardess who in 1977 was ejected from the cargo door of a dc10 over the state of Kansas. In what the airline reffered to as a "decompression incident" I'll never forget her. never. Written December 16th, 2001 © on Dec 16 2001 12:31 PM PST, Patric Patterson    0 • 1
