Demise in the Shadow Patterns
By RiVeN
"Son, one day you will get to be as old as I am. I would tell you the cliche, 'Enjoy your days of youth while you still can.'" An old, senile man said to me on a melancholy day. There was something in his demeanor that made me want to stay. "A demise in the shadow patterns. This shows my end is near. I know this because I am smart." He sighed and began rocking his chair in sync with his aging heart. He sat by the window and stared out into the cold, grey world. "Why is it that our thoughts of sadness and lonliness seem manifested by the sky?" He asked me. I replied with a mere shrug. "Why do people look away when not telling the truth? Are they aware the eyes are windows to your MIND and feel guilty whenever it decides to lie?" He took his glasses off and cleaned them though it did not help his view on the world. "All of these questions I wanted to answer before this world I would depart." He sighed and looked at the floor. "A demise in the shadow patterns. This shows my end is near. I know this because there is no longer any emotion in my heart." He may have been dead physically, but spiritually, he had never been more alive I remember that conversation fifty years ago when I was just a boy. I now face the same conflict. Remembering his quest for answers is my drive. Hello World.I wrote this last night at midnight. The only light in my room was coming from a black light and it was pouring rain last night and I had been trying to sleep, but had the urge to write and this is what came out.
