Phantoms of the Shadows Pt.2
By RiVeN
I took the light and walked back into the room upstairs with the noose and opened the door. I held the light up and still saw nothing. I went across the hall to the adjacent room. The door was locked so I kicked the door down. There was a hole in the right wall and a cage. Inside the cage was a letter that read, “One of the creatures has manifested and come out of the shadows. I was able to put it in a cage, but I fear it will outgrow the cage soon. It has psychic powers and has been able to control my mind at times. I also fear its thirst for flesh and blood has grown.” I looked through the hole in the wall and saw nothing in the next room. I crawled through the wall and the room was exactly like the previous; it was dark, small, and had little in it. The only thing in there was a bed. The beds sheets were soaked in blood. I pulled up the sheets and looked under the bed. There lay John. His face eaten away and his stomach’s entrails exposed. My stomach began to turn. I turned around and held the light up to the corner and the light revealed in the shadows the beast described in the letter. It was a large circular body with six legs and the size of a dog. Its breathingwas loud and came in short breaths. It had no eyes; Only a mouth with razor sharp talons. Though it seemed to be staring right at me. I creeped back out through the hole and closed my eyes. I opened them and luckily the creature had not followed me. I exited the room and went back to the one across the hall. The noose still hanging from the ceiling. I closed the door as I heard the one across the hall open. I stepped onto the stool and then became a phantom of the shadows. The End. Kind of disturbing. I tried to write it in the style of Thomas Ligotti. I wrote it during two periods one day in school. I personally like it.
