Sacred Walk/First Contact

By Egypt

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

The sun was warm, the breeze slightly cool She began the walk, hundreds of yards from the school Amazed at the peace and quiet there Deep inside a city that didn't care She came to a fork in the path and stopped She looked to the right and her heart flopped She walked to the left as she heard 'You must' Head straight ahead, she shivered as her feet pounded the dust 'There's no avoiding, you must come this way.' A whisper behind her, she heard it say 'Today is the day, to face your past and heal, I am your first step, do we have a deal?' She stopped walking and turned around Looking, left, right, up and down 'Whatever you are, I hear your cry.' 'Let me move on.' she said with a sigh 'There is much I must do, so much to see. I ask one request, it's not much, you'll see. Let me walk in peace for a while, an hour or so Just understand, I am not saying no.' She waited for a reply, surrounded by nature's sounds The warmest breeze blew across her, as she looked to the ground 'Your request is granted, go and make ready. Listen and learn, then come to me steady.' She bowed low and softly said 'thank you.' 'My promise I'll keep, I'll come to you soon.' She turned back around and continued her walk Not really intending to keep the appointed talk. Written February 15th, 2002 © on Feb 15 2002 10:30 AM PST   18 • 0 • 10
